Tierra de Lucha - Trailer
/Year: 2018/ Produced for SOLSOC/ 2019 was a symbolic year for workers around the world: it marked the 100th anniversary of the International Labor Organization (ILO). In this context, we traveled with FOS, IFSI and Solsoc to film and later edit "Tierra de lucha", a feature documentary on the rights of workers in Colombia. Decades of violence have left their mark. Despite the peace agreement and the periods of conciliation, serious inequalities persist. A small elite still owns most of the land and a significant section of the population has no prospect of a better life.Despite this situation, the unionization rate is barely 4.6% of the workforce. Union repression is among the most brutal in the world. "To be a trade unionist in Colombia is to have one foot in the grave," Luis Giovanni Castañeda, president of the Sintraimagra union, told us in Medellín. "Tierra de Lucha" tells the story of several workers - from sugar cane cutters to domestic workers and activists - and how they live despite the repression of the state, employers and various armed groups. It is an immersion in their daily life, the expression of their fears, but also of their dreams, in a complicated historical and social context. It is also a means of denouncing the violence committed against human rights defenders and trade unionists and of proposing economic alternatives respectful of the rights of workers. The documentary has been distributed to various cinemas across Belgium, with special screenings in Cuba, Colombia, Burkina Faso and at several festivals across Belgium (Manifiesta, Gentse Feesten etc.)
